The less you drink, the healthier you can be.
By understanding the Guidelines, you can make informed decisions about cutting back on the amount you drink.
One serving of alcohol is often more than one standard drink. Learn how standard drinks are measured with our online calculator.
Cutting back on alcohol can greatly improve your health. Making even small changes to your drinking patterns can help reduce the risk of developing a range of alcohol-caused illnesses and conditions.
Would you like to know more about the Australian Alcohol Guidelines and the science behind them?
The Guidelines are based around a limit on the number of standard drinks – but what is a standard drink?
A standard drink contains 10 grams of pure alcohol.
The number of standard drinks in a serve of alcohol depends on the alcohol volume (strength) and the size of the serve.
One standard drink is contained in a small 100ml glass of red wine, a can or bottle (375ml) of mid-strength beer, or a shot or nip (30ml) of spirits.
