FARE’s submission to the Productivity Commission inquiry into Mental Health and response to the Issues Paper on the Social and Economic Benefits of Improving Mental Health.

Alcohol reforms in the Northern Territory (NT) have included a rewrite of the Northern Territory of Australia Liquor Act 1978 (the Act).

PAAC and FARE strongly support the introduction of a risk-based licensing scheme to replace the current scheme which is grossly outdated and inadequate.

Alcohol is no ordinary commodity. It is one of the leading contributors to death and disability in Australia and is a causal factor in over 200 disease and injury conditions.

Given the seriousness of the devastation of alcohol harm, the ACT Government is to be commended for its commitment to tackling this problem in the ACT.
