Summary

This report compares and assesses the policies that regulate the physical availability of alcohol in Australia and the United Kingdom. Produced by the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) and the London-based Institute of Alcohol Studies (IAS) the report assesses the relative merits of different availability policies applied in the two countries. The report also highlights the strengths of alcohol policy measures across the two countries, but most importantly, highlights the wealth of effective and proven policy measures available to governments to stop alcohol harm.

FARE continues to fund and undertake research that contributes to the knowledge-base about alcohol harms and strategies to reduce them.

This research is used to inform our approach to evidence-based alcohol policy development, ensuring that the solutions we are advocating for are informed by research. FARE’s research is also often quoted by governments, other not-for-profit organisations and researchers in public discussions about alcohol, demonstrating that FARE is seen as a leading source of information.
